على طريقي إلى أبو ظبي On my way to Abu Dhabi

ها أنا جالس في الطائرة على طريقي إلى أبو ظبي. وللأسف الشديد فلن أكون مشاركاً في السباق بسبب نوع ما من الإنفلونزا وسعال انتابني خلال الأسبوعين الماضيين. فكرت بإلغاء رحلتي وقررت أخيراً أن هناك أمور أخرى أود ان أعملها بل وأن عدم المشاركة في السباق ستمكنني من التفرغ لهذه الأمور ومنها مساعدة لورنس فانوس ويونس كوزكوز في أي من احتياجاتهم ليتفرغوا نفسياً للتركيز على السباق.  

قبل ان تقلع الطائرة بدقائق تواصلت لآخر مرة مع المسئول عن الرياضيين النخبة ومع يونس الذي ذهب إلى الدار البيضاء مستعداً للسفر ولكن مازال ينتظر تأشيرة الدخول إلى أبو ظبي. فرصة الحصول على التأشيرة باتت ضئيلة جداً وأخشى أننا سنتضطر إلى تأجيل مشاركة يونس إلى العام القادم.

أتطلع إلى لقاء العديد ممن تعرفت عليهم خلال العام الماضي عن طريق مدونتي، ومنهم من قابلتهم في عمان مؤخراً وآخرون  لم أقابلهم بل تواصلت معهم كتابة فقط. كما اتشوق إلى لقاء عمى وأبن وبنات عمتي الذين لم أرى بعضهم لعشرات من السنين. وأأسف أن عمتي في رحلة سفر في الخارج ولن اراها هذه المرة. وأخيراً سأتقابل مع صديقي الحميم من زمن الدراسة الجامعية في المانيا إبراهيم الذي لم اراه قرابة عشرين عام أيضاً والذي بات يعمل في الشارقة. فكما ترون لدي العديد من الدوافع لعدم إلغاء رحلتي رغم عدم مشاركتي في السباق.

بعد وصولي الى مطار أبو ظبي تلقيت الخبر المؤسف بأن يونس لم يحصل على تأشيرة الدخول إلى أبو ظبي.     

Here I am, on the plane to Abu Dhabi. To my great regret, I will not be able to participate in the race as I was sick with some kind of a flew and a cough for the last 2 weeks. I contemplated canceling my trip, but decided eventually that there are other things I wanted to do. In fact, not racing means I will have more time available for these things, including being available for Lawrence Fanous and Younes Kouzkouz if they needed anything and enabling them to focus on their race.

Minutes before taking off, I exchanged emails with the Elite Athlete Manager on the race organizer's side and with Younes, who has traveled to Casablanca and was sitting there hoping for good new regarding his visa. Chance have become very slim though and I'm afraid we'll have to put the plans on hold for one year.

I'm looking forward to meeting many of those who I got to know through my blog over the last year, some of which I have met in Oman recently, others I have only exchanged messages with. I'm also excited to meet my uncle and his son and daughters whom I haven't seen for tens of years. I'm sorry not to see my aunt as she is out of the country currently. Finally, I'm happy I will meet my old buddy from university time in Germany, Ibrahim whom I haven't seen for about 20 years and who is now living and working in Sharja. You see, many good reasons to travel to Abu Dhabi even if I'm not racing.

After landing in Abu Dhabi, I received the bad news that Younes did not get his visa to enter Abu Dhabi.
